  • About the Artist: David Byrd was born in 1941 in Tennessee and raised in Miami Beach, Florida. He attended the Boston Museum School, Boston, Mass. 1962 and then Carnegie Mellon University. He currently owns a company with Joe Beserra that does toy Painting, Model Making, Labels & Patterns, Concepts & Graphics for the toy business. His other clients include Mattel, Jaks Pacific, the Bradford Exchange, Franklin Mint and he has done projects that include Max Steel, Polly Pocket, Winx, Fairytopia, Barbie, Munster Collectibles, Disney Collectibles, Harry Potter, Looney Tunes, WWF Wrestling. In 1991 he was the Senoir Designer/Illustrator at Warner Brothers. he was the third artist hired in the newly created Consumer Products Department and was its only Illustrator for the 11 years I was there. I was promoted to Illustrator/Designer in 1997. Over time I created or helped create styleguides, art and illustrations for all WB properties, including Looney Tunes, Anamaniacs, Pinky & the Brain, Tiny Tunes, Scooby Doo, Superman, Batgirl, Batman, the U.S. Stamp program as well as Styleguides for many WB Films, including Harry Potter, Wild Wild West, Space Jam, The Wizard of Oz, the Batman Films and The Quest for Camelot. I work with computer design prgrams, as well as in all traditional media: Acrylic, Watercolor, Pastel, Brush Inking, Pencil, Pen & Ink, Oil Color. He created many posters for Broadway, Off-Broadway, Regional Theater and Film, including: Follies; Godspell; Jesus Christ Superstar; The Magic Show; Sister Mary Ignatius; Little Shop of Horrors; Steel Magnolias; The Cocktail Hour; Day of the Locust; The Chicago Film Festival; The Metropolitan Opera; The Lincoln Center Repertory, and others. He has done many book and album covers for Warner Books; Avon Books; Harcourt-Brace; Dial-Delacorte; Signet; Berkley Books; EP Dutton; Boulder Books; Straight Arrow Books; Pocket Books, Columbia; Warner Records; London; Decca; ABC-Paramount; Vanguard; Polygram; Arista, etc. He has been the exclusive poster artist for Bill Graham's Fillmore East in NYC 1967-1971. His posters include: The Jimi Hendrix Experience; The Grateful Dead; The Jefferson Airplane; The Who & their rock opera, Tommy; Iron Butterfly; Ravi Shankar; Tommy at the Metropolitan Opera; the commemorative poster for the Woodstock Festival; the 1969 Rolling Stones Tour; the Final Fillmore Poster; Fillmore, The Movie.
