A set of Christian religious books from the 1800s in Good to Near Fine condition. These books are all leather-bound, and all of them have had Dr. Jacksons Hide Rejuvenator applied to their covers. This set contains the following volumes; 1 and 2. THE PREACHER: SKETCHES OF ORIGINAL SERMONS, CHIEFLY SELECTED FROM THE MANUSCRIPTS OF TWO EMINENT DIVINES OF THE LAST CENTURY – Philadelphia: J. Whetham, 144 Chestnut Street. 1838. Leather bound hardcover. Good overall condition. Volume I is 431 pages, with index. Volume II is 432 pages, with index. Leather binding with gilt titles on the spines. Spine gilt faded, spotting of cover page, light edge wear, corners and spine ends bumped, interior pages lightly tanned, binding tight. Each volume measures 5.75 x 8.75 x 1.5 inches. 3. JAYS CHRISTIAN - THE CHRISTIAN CONTEMPLATED BY WILLIAM JAY - 1832. Philadelphia. Third Edition. Jays Christian: The Christian Contemplated by William Jay and published by Key, Meilke and Biddle. Very good condition and bound in tan leather with gilted red spine label. This antique book is not illustrated. This volume is lightly worn, with tight spines and all covers and pages fully attached. There is light foxing and aging to the pages. There are owners markings on the preface page. The book measures approximately 7.5in x 4.5in x 1in. 4. METHODIST HYMNS - 1856. New York. Published by Carlton and Phillips. Leather-bound in near fine condition with gilded spine and cover, as well as gilding on the edges of the pages. Binding is tight and owners markings on inside end paper in pencil. Measures 5in x 3.5in x 1.5in. 5. THE HOLY BIBLE – Leatherbound with string binding. The Holy Bible containing the new and old testaments. New York, 1848 published by the American Bible Society. Owners name on title page. Foxing and and browning though out see images. Binding is solid and it is in overall good condition. Measures 8in x 11in x 3in. 6. THE DICTIONARY OF THE HOLY BIBLE – 1823. New York. Published by N. Bangs and t. Mason for the Methodist Episcopal Church. In Good condition. The cover is beginning to come off, and there is wear to the edges of the cover, as well as some foxing to the pages, however it appears to have all of the pages. There are no owner markings. 7. THE MINISTER’S HANDBOOK BY REV. EDWIN NEVIN – 1872. Philadelphia. Ferguson and Woodburn. This is a book containing the various sermons for ceremonies like marriages and baptisms. There are no owners markings, but there is a memorandum section in the back with sections filled out for baptisms, marriages and deaths. It is in Near Fine condition with some minor scuffs to the cover. 8. PSALMS AND HYMNS BY JOHN H. LIVINGSTON – 1821. New York. Published by John Montgomery. Near Fine condition. This book contains the Psalms and Hymns for the Reformed Dutch Church of North America. It is bound in black leather, with gold embossing on both covers and the spine. The spine is hubbed, and the owners name Nelly Deforest is embossed in gold on the front cover. The edges of all of the pages are gilded and there is no foxing to the pages. With the exception of some scuffs to the cover, this book is in great shape. 9. THE BAPTIST HYMN BOOK – 1871. Philadelphia. American Baptist Publication Society. Good condition. This book contains the Hymns for the Baptist Church. It is bound in black leather, with gold embossing on both covers and the spine. There are owners markings in pencil on the blanks pages in the front and back of the book. The edges of all of the pages are gilded and there is no foxing to the pages. The front cover is showing some wear, as is the spine and back cover. 10. THE VIRGINIA SELECTION OF PSALMS, HYMNS, AND SPIRITUAL SONGS BY ANDREW BROADDUS – 1854. Richmond, Virginia. Very Good condition. This book contains Hymns for churches in Virginia. It is bound in brown leather, with gold embossing on the spine. There is foxing on some of the pages the pages. There are owner’s marking on the front inside cover. With the exception of some scuffs to the cover, this book is in great shape. 11. THE BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER – 1867. Oxford. Printed at the University Press for the Protestant Episcopal Church. Near Fine condition. This book contains the prayers for the Protestant Episcopal Church. It has a brown leather spine, with a wooden front and back cover, with gold embossing on the spine. The spine is hubbed. The edges of all the pages are gilded and there is no foxing to the pages. There is a blue satin page marker sewn in and there are no owner markings.
