Description:

Antique Qum tree of life hunting pictorial rug was hand knotted in Persia of 100 percent wool on a cotton foundation. The rug is 80+ years old, has medium wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. Nice colors with excellent quality. No holes or repairs, nice and soft. Gorgeous design and a near perfect rectangle. Cleaned and ready to be enjoyed. Recent embargoes by the U.S. against Iranian goods should cause the value of these rugs to increase.

  • Notes:
  • Qum, or Qom, carpets are made in the Qum Province of Iran, around 60 miles south of Tehran. Although rug weaving in Qom was not a major industry until the past 100 years, these luxurious silk and wool rugs are well known for their high quality and are regarded among the most expensive in the world. Persian Qum rugs are often considered as an investment, because theirs value is constantly increasing. Given their largely classical design repertory, Qum rugs tend to be finely woven, with knot counts often in the two hundred and three hundreds. Forty to forty years ago, Qum also became a production center for Persian, all-silk rugs of exceptional beauty. Today, weavings of Qum continue to be among the most respected and highly prized Persian rugs. Tree of life and medallion motifs are featured heavily in rugs knotted in Qum. While Qum rugs use a wide range of colors, they tend to be brighter and more colorful than Isfahan or Nain rugs, and not quite as rich as a Kashan. Shades are like most popular colors of Persian rugs - blue, red and ivory. Qom Rugs are typically smaller than other Persian rugs, and they are often placed on walls because of the pictorial scenes depicted in them.
