The Ruglife LLC

Description: Antique Tree of Life pictorial rug was hand knotted in Iran of 100 percent wool, with a cotton foundation, and has 150+ knots per square inch. The rug is over 80 years old and has medium wool piles and is in excellent condition, with some minor areas of low piles and showing some signs of abrash (fading) due to the use of antique vegetable dyes. Beautiful colors with excellent quality. No holes or repairs. Gorgeous design and a near perfect rectangle. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. Recent embargoes by the U.S. against Iranian goods should cause the value of these rugs to increase.

  • Notes: Of all the motifs used over the centuries in making Oriental rugs, one design stands out among the others, not only for its impactful theme, but also due to a long history that spans numerous cultures and geographical areas. Known today as the Tree of Life, the design has played a central role in the arts for millennia, showing up in everything from pottery and mosaics, to paintings and other handcrafted items. And while its exact origins are unclear, with some researchers saying it dates as far back as the Mesopotamian era, the design can be found threaded through the religious and secular histories of ancient peoples, the world over. In the realm of rugs, it has been depicted and celebrated, especially through vintage and antique Persian rugs. Within this category, this iconic and beautiful depiction has been achieved in various styles, such as Qum, Kerman and Kashan carpets. This is due to Ancient Iranian cultures Sacred World Tree which bears all seeds, also known as The Tree of Life! Since this symbolism is found in many diverse cultures around the world, its exact origin is obscure. However, scholars believe it originated in ancient Mesopotamia, although the trees features have transformed over the centuries.
