Antique Persian Kazak rug was hand knotted in Persia (Iran) of 100% natural wool on a cotton foundation. The rug is 80+ years old, has medium wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. It is made with excellent quality, nice and soft. This rug is showing signs of abrash (fading) due to the use of antique vegetable dyes. This rug was acquired from an established rug merchant. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. Current embargoes against Iranian goods by the U.S. should cause the value of these rugs to increase.

  • Notes:
  • Kazak rugs were originally created during the 18th century in the city of Caucus, Azerbaijan. Kazak rugs were not woven by any singular tribe. Instead, their origin is steeped in a blend of all regions across the area. The Kazak are likewise famous in their region for their widespread influences that have inherently influenced their designs. Modern day Kazak weavers still incorporate the teachings and designs of their ancestors. All Kazak rugs share an old, antiquity look to them regardless of their age. This look is given life through the rug’s heavy, dense, and tightly knotted structure. Kazak rugs are woven completely with wool while its wefts and warps incorporate cotton. Each rug consists of at least 100 knots per square inch. Kazak rugs take a hefty amount of time to finish. A normal sized Kazak rug takes at least nine months to complete. Kazak rugs have a heavy folk influence upon their design. They house big, bold, dominating geometric patterns on a subtle color backdrop, giving it an edge that differentiates it from other rugs on the market. Each rug uses about five to seven different colors to create its elaborate effect. The rugs use bright colors like red, blue, green and ivory. The body frame of the carpet has scattered geometric figures all over. These include folk inspired detached shapes, squares, diamonds, medallions and sometimes these designs incorporate animals, trees, and floral motifs.
